Arturo Rodriguez was appointed as Interim Assistant City Manager effective Monday, March 5, 2018. He will oversee the operations and services provided by Public Works, Public Information Services, Engineering, Traffic, Municipal Information Systems, Health & Wellness Departments and Office of Grant Management.

Before his appointment, Rodriguez served as Health and Wellness Director. Under his leadership, he undertook major projects assigned to him such as 2014 All-America City Award and working with community leaders to achieve winning community, Culture of Health 2014 prize by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF).

As directed by city commission Rodriguez created a task force group that went on to design the first of its’ kind, reusable bag ordinance. Most recently, he has led Brownsville’s response to H1N1 and Zika, public health responses.

Also, Rodriguez has received national recognition as on of 26 Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Public Health Nurse Leader. He is also the recipient of the I.E., Scott Award for outstanding contributions to the Environmental health profession by the Texas Environmental Health Association. 

Most recently, Rodriguez was appointed by Texas Dept. Of Health Commissioner Hellerstadt to the Border Health Task force to improve the health of all border residents. Mr. Rodriguez has also received a Nurse fellowship from the Association of Public Health Nurse.

Doctor of Nursing Practice from Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center.

Masters of Public Health from University of Texas Health Sciences Center School of Public Health.

Bachelors of Science in Nursing from University of Texas at Brownsville.
