The Brownsville Public Library System Advisory Board was created by Ordinance #91-1245 as adopted on January 7, 1992, and amended by Ordinance #93-1245-B, which was adopted on April 30, 1994; Ordinance #96-1245-A as adopted on January 30, 1996 and amended by Ordinance #2007-1245-B, as adopted on February 6, 2007.

  2. Brownsville Convention & Visitors Bureau (BCVB)Meeting

    The Brownsville Convention and Visitors Bureau functioned as a division of the Brownsville Chamber of Commerce until June 8, 1988, when it was incorporated as a non-profit 501c(6) corporation with the State of Texas, and has its own organizational bylaws. The board manages all business affairs of the Corporation under the direction of its Board of Directors and may delegate specific powers to the Executive Committee or other committees.

  4. Main Street District Brownsville Advisory Board Meeting

    The Main Street Advisory Board is tasked with working with the Downtown District Manager to develop and adopt a strategic annual action plan that will prioritize projects for Downtown Brownsville. The Board's primary role is to lead the implementation of the annual action plan and advocate for Downtown Brownsville. Main Street Brownsville is a volunteer-based program that requires an active Board who can commit a minimum of six (6) to ten (10) hours a month, in addition to attending monthly Board meetings. A total of nine Board members serve two-year terms and are appointed by the City Commission. The inaugural Board was appointed in 2016.

    Overview The Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee was created by Ordinance #91-1232, amending Chapter 24 of the Code of Ordinances by adding a new Section 24-15. The committee makes recommendations with reference to park management and operations and shall provide guidance and advice regarding improvement and maintenance of the City's parks. Board Mission "The City of Brownsville Parks and Recreation Advisory Board shall permanently preserve, protect, maintain, improve, and enhance its natural resources, parkland, and recreational opportunities for all current and future generations." Mission Statement "The mission of the Brownsville Parks and Recreation Department is to directly contribute to the City’s quality of life by providing exceptional programs, facilities, parks, and trails while celebrating and preserving the community’s natural and cultural heritage.”

  7. Historic Preservation & Design Review Board Meeting

    The Historic Preservation and Design Review Board (formerly known as "Heritage Council") was created by Ordinance #1100, adopted August 28, 1985, amending Chapter 26 of the Code of Ordinances by adding Article VII and VIII, and amended by Ordinance #99-1100.27, adopted on June 1, 1999. To better meet the City's historic preservation needs, Ordinance#1100 was revamped in 2015 and was replaced by Ordinance No. 2015-1606. The board issues Certificates of appropriateness (COAs), also known as Class "A" Permits, authorizing the total or partial alteration of a structure which is zoned as a historic site within the Historic Overlay District ("O-11").

  10. Board of Commissioners of the Housing Authority of the City of Brownsville (HACB)

    The Board of Commissioners of the Housing Authority of the City of Brownsville (HACB) consists of five members and one of the members must be a resident of the Public Housing Program or Housing Choice Voucher Program. The Board Members are appointed by the Mayor of the City of Brownsville. It is the responsibility of the Board to interpret the policies that govern the HACB, which are subject to the mandates and limits set by State and Federal laws, and to chart the direction of the agency and ensure sound fiscal management. The Board holds their regular meetings on the fourth Monday of the month at 5:30 p.m. in the Rosa Allala Board Room at 24 Elm Street. Special meetings may be scheduled to meet particular deadlines or to ensure a quorum is present to conduct business.
