WHO: City of BrownsvilleCameron County Homeless Partnership
WHAT: The City of Brownsville, in collaboration with the Cameron County Homeless Partnership and local nonprofits will take part in the 2018 Point-In-Time Count on Thursday, January 25, 2018.
The Point-In-Time (PIT) Count is a survey of homeless persons on a single night in January. This nationwide endeavor is conducted to identify the homeless individuals in a community and provide resources to assist them to overcome their current situations.
As a recipient of U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) funds for Homeless Assistance Services, the City of Brownsville collaborates with the Cameron County Homeless Partnership and Continuum of Care (CoC) Program to conduct a PIT Count every year.
PIT Count results are submitted to the Texas Homeless Network (THN) and information is used for annual HUD grants, as well as for local, regional, and statewide planning purposes.
“The annual Point-In-Time Count is an important survey for understanding and identifying homelessness in our community,” said Office of Grant Management & Community Development Director Marina Zolezzi. “The information and data collected through the survey will provide valuable insight to the City and participating organizations, particularly for the planning and development of social service programs addressing homelessness.”
“The Point-In-Time Count allows us to identify any strengths and weaknesses within current social service programming,” said Program Manager Julia D. Lash. “In addition, through the annual survey, the City may be eligible to apply for homeless assistance grants while also raising awareness in the community regarding homelessness trends.”
