City of Brownsville Earns Distinguished Budget Presentation Award

BROWNSVILLE, Texas (August 20, 2019) – The Distinguished Budget Presentation Award has been awarded to the City of Brownsville Finance Department by the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) for its 2019budget presentation.

The GFOA established the Distinguished Budget Presentation Awards Program (Budget Awards Program) in 1984 to encourage and assist state and local governments to prepare budget documents of the very highest quality that reflect both the guidelines established by the National Advisory Council on State and Local Budgeting and the GFOA's best practices on budgeting and then to recognize individual governments that succeed in achieving that goal.

The GFOA Distinguished Budget Presentation Award reflects the commitment of the governing body and staff to meet the highest principles of governmental budgeting through the assessment of how well the budget serves as:

  • A policy document
  • A financial plan
  • An operations guide
  • A communications device.

“As stewards of public trust and tax dollars, the City of Brownsville Finance Department is honored to maintain the highest budgeting standards and financial reports,” said City of Brownsville Finance Director Lupe Granado III.

The Government Finance Officers Association is a major professional association servicing the needs of more than 19,000 appointed and elected local, state and provincial-level govern officials and other finance practitioners.
