2018 Crime Report Shows Crime Decreased

Brownsville PD

BROWNSVILLE, Texas (May 14, 2019) – The Brownsville Police Department on Monday, May 13, 2019, published the 2018 Annual Crime Report, an index of crimes reported during the calendar year.

In 2018, the Brownsville Police Department adopted and converted its reporting method from the Uniform Crime Report (UCR) to the National Incident Based Reporting System (NIBRS).

The Annual Crime Report is generated every year and submitted to the Federal Bureau of Investigations.  Index crimes are divided into seven categories: murder, rape, robbery, aggravated assault, burglary, theft and motor vehicle theft.

In 2018, there were a total of 4,365 index crimes reported in the City of Brownsville
as compared to 5,653 in 2017. The crime index revealed a 22.78 % decrease when compared to 2017.

“On behalf of the Brownsville Police Department, I would like to thank the members of our community for their continued support to decrease crime in our city,” said Brownsville Police Chief Felix Sauceda, Jr. “When we work together alongside our residents and community leaders, our work and role becomes more impactful and leaves a lasting legacy among our youth that Brownsville is safe and welcoming. We value life, family and our future.”
