Purpose 


The Brownsville Municipal Court represents the judicial branch of the City of Brownsville. The function of the Municipal Court is to process and adjudicate cases that are filed in the court including Class C misdemeanor violations, parking, state traffic codes and city ordinance. 

The court is entrusted with the fair and just resolution of cases preserving the rule of law and protecting the rights of the people. The department also performs magistrate duties pursuant to the Code of Criminal Procedure of the municipality.

CORONAVIRUS (COVID -19) AND COURT APPEARANCES

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the City of Brownsville Municipal Court, with high regard for the safety of the community and our staff, will be closed to the public for in person appearances.

Municipal Court Video-Conference Hearings: 


Municipal Court hearings are open to the public and we are conducting all our hearings via ZOOM. Below is the information needed to view the hearings: 

  • When: Days and times may change weekly. Check back here for updates.
    • Monday:10:30 a.m., 12 p.m. (Juvenile), 1:30 p.m., 4 p.m. 
    • Tuesday: 12 p.m., 2:30 p.m., 4 p.m.
    • Wednesday: 10 a.m., 12 p.m., 2:30 p.m., 4 p.m.
    • Thursday: 10 a.m., 12 p.m., 3 p.m.
    • Friday: 10:30 a.m., 12 p.m.(Juvenile), 3 p.m., 4 p.m.
  • Where: In YouTube. The City of Brownsville Municipal Court


Payments:

The Court is now open to the public for payments only. The temporary hours of operation are Tuesdays and Thursdays 8:00 am to 12:00 pm / 1:00 pm to 4:30 pm. 

Due to the building’s limited space, and to protect the health and safety of court staff and members of the public you will be still required to: 

  • Wear a facial cover,
  • Have your temperature taken,
  • Maintain social distancing,
  • Observe all COVID-19 signs,
     

Anyone having a temperature of 100°F or higher will be denied entry to the building and asked to resolve their case using other available methods

ALL COURT IN-PERSON DOCKETS ARE CANCELLED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE. YOU WILL RECEIVE NOTICE WHEN TO APPEAR WHEN CASES ARE RESCHEDULED
