The City of Brownsville, Texas, is the designated and direct recipient of the Connecting Communities project under the Fiscal Year 2016 Transportation Investment Generating Economic Recovery (TIGER) Discretionary Grant Program. The Connecting Communities project is comprised of three (3) projects.
Project 1: Improve Operations and Passenger Facility
This project will improve safety and the daily operational functions on the 10-acre location of Brownsville Metro’s Maintenance and Operations facility.
Project 2: Improve Bus Stop Safety and Comfort
This project will improve approximately forty-three (43) existing bus stops. The improvements will consist of adding Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) accessible sidewalks, benches, shelters, ramps, bench pads, shelter pads, bus pads, and bike amenities.
Project 3: Purchase Replacement Revenue Vehicles
This project will purchase approximately five (5) hybrid diesel-electric buses for the City of Brownsville transportation Brownsville Metro’s transit revenue vehicles, which have exceeded the recommended revenue service.
